DETAILED DESCRIPTION:
On this tour you will visit the new International Baroque Museum in Angelopolis and the Santa Maria Tonantzintla and the San Francisco Acatepec churches which are excellent examples of Baroque architecture.
The International Baroque Museum in Angelopolis, designed by the Japanese architect Toyo Ito, combines stunning modern architecture with the most important artistic movement of the 17 and 18th century. The newest art museum to open in North America, it is dedicated to Baroque art and opened to the public on Feb 4, 2016. You will have 2-3 hours to enjoy the artwork in the museum.
Our next stop will be the Church of Santa María Tonantzintla in Cholula. This church was originally built in the 16th century and developed in multiple stages until the 19th century. It is valued for its folk or indigenous Baroque architecture. It combines both pre-Hispanic elements such as dark-skinned angels and others with blond hair and blue eyes.
The third and final stop on this tour is Templo San Francisco Acatepec located in San Francisco Acatepec in San Andres Cholula. This church is known for its Mexican Baroque architecture exemplified by the Talavera mosaic and red brick on the exterior.
